Fancy Dress

I cannot believe The Captain. I was walking down the stairs with Laura, carrying various trays drinks from a meeting I'd been 'waitressing' for, when he cheerfully said 'Oh, look at you two! Is that fancy dress?'.

Fancy dress? At this point I need to describe our respective outfits. Today, I'm wearing a black pencil skirt, with a bow on the waistband, a red-and-white stripy top, red patent shoes. Laura is proudly sporting a new black and white A-line dress from Warehouse. She's also wearing red shoes, but hers are flat and I am, of course, walking in heels. I think I look pretty smart, dammit. When I got into the office this morning, Nadine commented that I looked 'very French' (I am not French), because, of course, all French people wear stripey tops on a regular basis.

Fancy dress though? If I didn't know The Captain very well by now, I'd think he's being an arsehole. But after all, he's the man who once said 'blow job' instead of 'blow-dry', so what do we expect? He meant it as a compliment - that is the terrifying thought. The man is a human gaffe machine.

It's been a shit day - and our patience has been tested several times as we carried tray after tray of food and refreshments up and down three flights of stairs. The Captain's well-meaning misjudged compliment was the proverbial icing on the cake. We quickly retreated into the galley where we made several rude gestures pointed at the floors above.
